Rockefeller Nominates 40 Students to US Service Academies

Statement

Date: Nov. 25, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Senator Jay Rockefeller today announced the nomination of 40 students from across West Virginia for appointments to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado; the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York; the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York; and the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

Rockefeller's nomination is the first step in the highly competitive process for receiving an appointment to one of the four academies. A nomination does not guarantee appointment.

"Year after year, I have had the profound honor of nominating impressive young West Virginia students to appointments in United States service academies. It's one of the true perks of my job as a United States Senator, and one that I'll miss dearly," Rockefeller said. "Their dedication to public service is truly inspiring, and I'm proud of the young men and women they are becoming. Today, I'm joining their friends, families and communities in celebrating their accomplishments and wishing them enormous success in their careers."
